Today, Spotify released an update to its Apple Watch app to include Siri Support. Now you can control your Spotify music through Siri on your watch by adding “on Spotify” to the end of a voice command. You’ll still need an iPhone nearby to play Spotify music, though. To use Siri with Spotify, your Apple Watch needs to be on. Music service Spotify has added a voice search feature to its iOS app that allows users to find song tracks, albums, and playlists. The new test feature takes Siri out of the equation. Spotify now supports Siri voice commands on any Apple Watch running watchOS 6, as spotted by 9to5Mac. How to Add Spotify Siri Shortcut to Play Music from Spotify on iPhone or iPad
Step #1. First off, download Spotify Siri shortcut on your iOS device.
Step #2. Next, tap on Get Shortcut to save it in the Shortcuts app on iPhone/iPad.
Step #3. Now launch Shortcuts app on your iOS device and tap on three dots on Spotify Siri shortcut. This will open the Settings of that specific Siri shortcut, and you can edit that shortcut as per your choice.
Step #4. Tap on Settings icon from the top right corner.
Step #5. Then, tap “Add to Siri” and record a phrase to activate the shortcut.
For example, you can record “Play Spotify.”

You need to tap Done button twice to complete the process.
It is time to invoke Siri; use Hey Siri and speak “Play Spotify” command.
There you go! Siri runs your command and you will be prompted to ask the name of artists, titles, or albums you want to play on Spotify using Siri shortcut. Note that your music will be opened in Spotify app on your device.

Play Spotify Album
You can speak a name of an album and the Spotify will play songs from that particular album on your device. When you speak this command, Spotify automatically begins to play the selected album on your iPhone or iPad. In case there is more than one album with the same name, you can speak the year in which the album is released.
Play Spotify Track
Want to play a track of an artist or from an album? You can say ‘Play Spotify (name of the track),’ and the app will play that song for you. Just pronounce the name of artists or albums precisely and enjoy the song. Like the album, Spotify will automatically play the track you have spoken.
Search Spotify Playlist

If you have created some playlists on Spotify, you can search one of those playlists on your iPhone or iPad. Since this is a search query, the music app will not play songs directly. Like a playlist, you can search your favorite artist from the Spotify app. Again, this will not play any song of that artist. Spotify will show you albums or songs created by the artist. From the list, you can either select an album or song composed/sung by that artist.

Siri is indeed getting smarter in iOS 12, just as had been previously rumored. Apple revealed a bunch of new features coming to its voice-based assistant at its WWDC keynote earlier this week, including a new Shortcuts feature that will let iPhone and iPad users initiate app-based actions via voice. Siri’s automation feature is based on Workflow, a startup that was recently acquired by Apple.
Spotify On Mac
A new discovery reveals that Siri will be able to control streaming apps in iOS 12, other than Apple Music, thanks to help from Shortcuts. TechCrunch reports that at a WWDC developer session this week, the company detailed a Play Media intent that’s coming to Siri Shortcuts.
Users will be able to use Siri to play audio and video from third-party apps like Spotify, for example.
Before you get too excited, you should know that Siri’s control over Spotify and other streaming apps won’t offer an experience as rich as Apple Music. Developers will have to integrate support for Shortcuts into their apps, and users will have to build their own Shortcuts recipes. But it’s certainly a step in the right direction.

Once set up on iPhone, the Shortcut would work on HomePod too, but you still need the iPhone to make it all possible. It’s not the full Spotify support that users have been clamoring for, and having to set it up yourself with Siri Shortcuts is a bit of a pain. It’s better than nothing, though!
